Ladies and gentleman, I introduce to you…Watermelon Jello Shot Slices.
Gone are the days where boring old Jello shots will do the trick. Jello Shot Slices are all the rage and we are going to give you step-by-step instructions on how to make them. Let’s start at the very beginning….
Ingredients
1 10-16lb watermelon
4 boxes of red colored jello (3 oz boxes)
2 boxes of unflavored gelatin (4 envelopes total)
4 cups of water
2-4 cups of vodka
Step One
You need a watermelon. A big one, too. Make sure it’s between 10-16lbs. Then cut that bad boy in half.
Step Two
Scoop out all the insides. Get alllllll the watermelon flesh out. You can save it for something else, or even scoop it into watermelon balls and bring it as a separate fruit plate! Don’t waste the fruit, it’s delicious.
Step Three
Make the Jello filling. Start with four boxes of your favorite red Jello. You can use cherry, strawberry, raspberry—whatever you’d like, you can use. We want to avoid using actual watermelon Jello because it will make the insides more pink, then deep red. Next, you’re going to add two 1 oz boxes of gelatin. This is what is going to hold everything together once it sets. Pour 4 cups of boiling water into the mixture. Whisk everything for a few minutes until everything is dissolved.
Step Four
Add 2-4 cups of your favorite vodka. It’s important to note not to skimp here and just buy the cheap stuff. Buying decent vodka will bring many rewards, including less of a hangover and headache the next day.
Step Five
Pour the mixture into the watermelon halves, evenly. Fill it up as much as you can, then pop that puppy into the refrigerator for about four hours, or until it sets.
Step Six
Once the mixture is set completely, take it out of the fridge and cut it into strips like you would a normal watermelon. Depending on the size you’d like you use, you can chop it up as you wish.
If you didn’t want to make the slices so grand, you could also use the same recipe and fill up an empty lime, lemon or orange peel. Same idea, same results!
